Fantastic complete set of Chinese Immortals, Taoist pantheons, Deities, complete set of 8, with hand written notes stating their names and ancestry. Sizes range from about 4 to 4 ½ inches tall x 2 x 1 ¼ inches or so. Vintage export pieces, with China stamped or painted on the bottom, see photos. Beautifully made of porcelain with a rich blue, turquoise glaze, probably from the 1920s. In Chinese mythology the Eight Immortals are believed to know the secrets of nature. They are said to represent separately male, female, the old, the young, the rich, the noble, the poor, and the humble Chinese.
The eight immortals were a group of deities in the Taoist pantheon who were first mentioned during the Tang and Song period, a group of legendary Xian in Chinese Mythology. Each immortal's power can be transferred to a vessel that can bestow life or destroy evil. Together, these eight vessels are called the "Covert Eight Immortals". Most of them are said to have been born in the Tang Dynasty. The set of figurines is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks and they came in an old Halle Brothers Company Department store box that is included, although I will pack separately for shipping. Please see photos for more information - offers considered.
